WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT MARINE SSB
RADIO FOR "IDI-YACHTS"
"The most sensible one (book) we've
read so far!!....,"
Hi Capt Marti! We recently purchased your
SSB book for the Bahamas, Cuba, Florida and Eastern Gulf of Mexico (even
though we aren't going to be in those locations for awhile). We are trying to
learn to use our SSB and your book has been the most sensible one that we've
read so far!! You mention that you have other books underway for other
locations and we are VERY interested in knowing how we could acquire them. We
recently left Seattle are will begin our trip down the west coast to San
Francisco tomorrow. Thanks for a great book and writing in terms us 'simple'
folks can understand!! Danica Richard & Jay Tremblay

"Filled with invaluable information...,"
Hi Marti,
First I want to tell you how wonderful we think your Marine SSB Radio
For Idi - Yachts is. My husband and I recently bought a
54DS Jeaneau Sun Odyssey. It will be delivered in December and will be
commissioned in May. We live in Rhode Island and plan to head south October of
2004. Having said that, I have been studying to get my Ham Radio License and
was in West Marine and saw your wonderful book. Last May we were fortunate
enough to have been invited to bring Schooner America up from Key West
to Newport, RI. Each
day of our voyage, our Captain would call Herb and wait patiently by his radio
to find out the weather conditions. They believed he was the most reliable
weather forecaster available. I was telling my husband that we will need to get
a hold of the Captain and find out how to hail Herb on the radio. While
reading your book, I found Southbound II Weather Net - SSB,
12359 USB at 2000-2200Z Daily! Well, you can imagine how delighted we were.
Your book is filled with invaluable information. I was also wondering if you
have completed any subsequent volumes? We would be particularly interested in
the Northeastern United States, Eastern Caribbean and if you have any of Eastern
Canada, including Newfoundland, Quebec and Labrador. We also crewed on a Little
Harbor 60 last summer in Newfoundland and can't wait to go back. Again, thanks
for the wonderful book, and if you can help us with any further volumes, please
let me know. Who knows, maybe we will see you when we get down to Florida.
Happy cruising, Linda and Bill Knowles

“Solid
information, very useful…,”
This is an
excellent book and those are hard to find on this subject. I write for several
magazines and I've never seen a better book on the subject. Marti has written a
straightforward succinct book on a subject that many people find difficult. She
makes it simple and covers the subject thoroughly. Dave Wheeler, Contributing
Editor for Southern Boating, also published in The Cruising Guide to Abaco,
Motor Boating, Power & Motoryacht, The Best of Sail, Sea, and Yachting.

“Easy to
understand…”
A valuable
tool, easy to understand and a good bit of humor on the side. A great gift for
cruising yachts people that are also involved in Ham Radio and SSB. Jan, N0LTA,

“An excellent guide book on marine radio...,”
Capt. Marti Brown learned to use her marine
Single Side Band radio the hard way. She bought one for her cruising boat and
tried to master the intricacies of its use while exploring Florida and The
Bahamas. Along the way she discovered that many cruisers learned the same way she
did by picking up little bits of knowledge along the way. Her book "Marine SSB
for Idi-Yachts" is the result of many interviews with cruisers and a desire to
fill the information void between the "die hard ham" and the casual radio user.
SSB radio is a traditional method of marine communication that has increased in
popularity because of new radio modem technology that allows users access to
inexpensive wireless e-mail. Also, new software products have eliminated the
need for weather fax machines and allow cruisers to connect their SSB radio
directly to their PCs. These services require a firm grasp of SSB operations and
this book is a great introduction for beginners. Is it a complete guide to
everything about ham or SSB radio? No, but it's not meant to be and that's the
reason I liked it. You have to start somewhere and the simple guide book format
of this rare little jewel is very easy to understand. Pamela House, Kemah, TX
